The ASTM A387 specification encompasses chromium-molybdenum alloy steel plates designed for welded boilers and pressure vessels intended for elevated temperature service. This specification includes various steel plate grades such as 2, 12, 11, 22, 22L, 21, 21L, 5, 9, and 91. The steel products must undergo killing and heat treatment processes. For decades, industries such as petrochemical, hydrocarbon processing, and coal conversion have extensively utilized this steel, with variations based on chromium and molybdenum content. Grade 12, 11, 22, and 5 are among the most commonly used, available in two strength levels: class 1 and class 2.

ASTM A387 steel plates find application in a temperature range from 316℃ to 593℃. These alloy steel plates retain their elevated temperature properties and are particularly valued for their fine grain, low silicon, low sulfur, calcium-treated composition. Occasionally, they are produced as quenched and tempered to achieve the highest levels of toughness.
